Who can rent on Cruizador?

At the moment, we ask that the prospective renters are min 25 yo and have a valid motorcycle endorsement for at least 3 years (category has to match with the category of the vehicle rented). Mainly for insurance purposes but also to build up trust among the owners.

For foreign renters, we ask them to give a proof of residence (electricity/gaz/phone bill e.g.).

Why do I have to provide my credit card information upfront?

We only store your credit card information. Like any rental service, we charge you upon return of the vehicle, providing the booking is effective. However, due to numerous false or unqualified requests, i.e. renters who do not respect the rental conditions, we kindly ask you to enter your credit card information so that we can be sure you are a serious renter and that you are entitled to rent on Cruizador.com

What kind of vehicle can be rented out on Cruizador?

All the two-wheelers respectively motorcycles 125cc and above or electric, registered in Switzerland, can be rented out on the platform. This is as simple as that. The age respectively the emission date of your driving license of the owner are not relevant to rent out on Cruizador.

What about the equipment?

As mentioned in our general conditions, it is the renter who is responsible for showing up with the regulatory equipment (approved helmet, jacket, gloves, etc.). However, the owners can optionally make this equipment available. If this option is done complementary by the owner, it will undeniably have a positive impact on the attractiveness of your ad. Indeed, some bikers resell their motorcycle and the equipment that goes with it for family or professional reasons. And they will probably not buy all the equipment for one or two rentals a year. Consequently, it’s an additional selling point for your ad if you can provide the basic equipment.

As a renter why do I have to upload my documents and what happens to them?

For reasons of security but also of trust, we always check the documents of the renters before validating their profile and allowing them to rent on our platform. Verified profiles appear with a (✅) and our system allows requests to pass. In addition, owners/dealers know that we have checked that you comply with the rental conditions and that you are covered by our insurance.

The confidentiality of your documents is our priority. Also, after inspection, we delete them from our online servers and keep them on a local server not connected to the internet.

How does the payment work?

The online payment provider Stripe takes care of the payment processing. Stripe is a well known service provider and guarantees a very high level of security. Payment takes place only via their server. The data is encrypted and transmitted via secure protocols. More info here

What are the transaction fees?

Transaction fees are indicated as of Jan 2020 and may vary, depending on the volume of transactions.

For renters: they are indicated during the check-out.

For private owners: we have two different fees:

  • When the avg. rental price/day is below or equal to 60CHF, we take 20%
  • When the avg. rental price is above, we take 30%

For professionals renters (dealers, garages, etc.) we have a different pricing (with optional add-ons), depending e.g. on whether you use your own insurance or use Cruizador’s insurance. Contact us to know more.

I am the owner and I received a ticket. Though I was not driving at the time of the violation. What happens?

Before handing over the keys to your vehicle, we ask you, among other things, to check the renter’s driving license and have him/her sign a rental contract (standard document provided by Cruizador and available in your account).

This document will contractually oblige the renter to comply with the regulations in force and will make him responsible for the penal and financial consequences of his/her acts. These documents being dated and signed, we will be able to prove which person was driving which vehicle at a specific time. Also, Cruizador will transmit all these documents with the greatest diligence to the competent authorities.

Why can I pay only by credit card?

Currently, we only allow credit card payments. This is because we have to block a deposit corresponding to the amount of the insurance deductible. For practical and security reasons, we do not want our users to walk around with a large amount of cash and leave it as a deposit with the owner.

As a private owner, when I rent out my bike, do I have to pay taxes?

  • City tax: unlike people renting out flats on platform such as Airbnb for instance, there is not city tax on motorbike rental.
  • Income tax: as a private owner, occasionally renting your bike on the platform, this is not considered as a professional business. The underlying reasoning is that by renting out your bike, you are offsetting your ownership costs and this is not a main source of income.
  • VAT: the value added tax is something you have to pay. But when your yearly revenues are below 100’000 CHF, you are not obliged to, which means it is on a voluntary basis. Only when you cross the 100’000CHF/year mark, then it becomes compulsory and you have to register to get a VAT-number.

All this to say the following, you have basically no tax to pay unless you make more than 100’000CHF/year with your rentals. And to be frank, even if our top owners make a few thousands a year, nobody has reached this threshold yet ☺️.

We recommend that the owners hand over the keys in person. This will facilitate the procedure, the inspection of the condition of the motorcycle and the explanation of its operation. However, sometimes something unexpected can prevent them. Also, you have the option of delegating to a trusted third person, provided that the inspection contracts/forms have been previously completed, dated and signed by the owner in person and that the third person respects the key delivery procedure . She will be able to find her way through our checklist (available in the dashboard, in the documents tab).

European countries: Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, etc. However, before embarking on a long-distance road-trip in remote areas, it would be wise to inform the owner to see if he agrees with the principle. That’s what fair play is all about.

Road violation and material damages

I am the owner and I received a ticket. Though I was not driving at the time of the violation. What happens?

Before handing over the keys to your vehicle, we ask you, among other things, to check the renter’s driving license and have him/her sign a rental contract (standard document provided by Cruizador and available in your account).

It is better to inform the owner directly and at the latest when you return the motorcycle. He/she will inform Cruizador who will manage the claim with the insurance. The insurance company will assess the amount of damage and make the repair. If the amount exceeds the amount of the deposit, the entire deposit will be retained.
If the amount is lower, only the difference between the repair costs and the deposit will be returned to the tenant.

What about the risk of theft?

When registering your motorcycle, Cruizador recommends that you do not give your exact address (just the neighborhood or a nearby point of interest), precisely to prevent malicious people from using the platform to target vehicles to steal.

Also be careful that your plate number is not seen on the photos in your ad.

In addition, we recommend that owners set up an appointment in a place other than their home (e.g. the Migros/Coop parking lot, a gas or a train station, etc.) in order to avoid also this scenario.

As owner, do I have to inform my insurance company?

Yes and it is even an obligation, stated in the Swiss law (LCR)! You must inform your insurance that your vehicle will occasionally be rented by a third party on the Cruizador platform. Contact us and we will explain the procedure to you (standard letter provided).

How about the accident coverage?

Accident insurance is the renter’s responsibility. In Switzerland, people are most often insured against accidents by their employer.

Professional accident insurance generally also covers personal accidents. If you are self- or unemployed, it is strongly advised to subscribe to an accident insurance with your health insurance.

However, we are working with our partner, in order to be able to offer an optional accident coverage, that you can subscribe during the booking process (opt-in).
