User guide for renters

Biker Cruizador

Thanks to the first experiences and numerous feedbacks from our users, we wanted to take advantage of writing a user guide for renters to explain how our new platform works.

If you are not familiar with the terms profile verification, km/day allowance, equipment, etc. you will probably learn one thing or two.

All the management of your bookings is done from your user account. This is your single access point to:

  • Cancel a booking;
  • Chat with the owner(s);
  • Update your profile, etc..

Profile verification

It is a unique but mandatory step. We recommend that you do this when registering. What is done no longer needs to be done 🙂 Go to the profile tab (>) -> verification -> upload your documents and click on request verification. Once your documents are received, and as long as you meet the conditions, we will validate your profile and a ✅ will appear next to your username. The owner will know that you have been verified by Cruizador and will validate your request more easily.

And if we cannot verify your profile, the system will automatically cancel your booking, according to our terms and conditions.

Profile

You can upload a profile pic, mention when your driving license was issued as well as write a small bio.

If this is optional, it has a great (positive) impact on trust. Remember that you are going to rent the bike from someone who does not necessarily know you, even if we have checked your documents.

When someone comes to your house, you like to know who you are dealing with, right? So remember to include some information such as the type of biker you are, the motorcycles you’ve already ridden, etc. It takes a few minutes but everyone wins and an owner will be more comfortable with the idea of renting you their beloved vehicle 🙂 user-guide-renters

Booking process

When you make a reservation request, the owner has 24h max to confirm the request. In general, these are more responsive and respond within a few hours after the request has been sent.

Without action from the owner, the system will cancel your request and you will be required to request a new vehicle. But no worries, your credit card will not be charged at this point (see paragraph on payment).

In any case, you will be notified whenever the status of your reservation changes, in your user account and by e-mail. We will tell you what action is needed from you.

So in a nutshell, how does a typical booking process look like on Cruizador?

Search filter(s)

You can use filters to refine your (search) criteria. You can filter by

  • Price
  • Make
  • Type of bike
  • License category (A, A-, A1)
  • Location
  • Etc.

Rental duration

Like the so-called traditional rental, rentals on Cruizador are in 24-hour increments. Also, you must take it into consideration when making the rental request. If, for example, you want to pick up the vehicle on Friday evening 6 p.m., and bring it back on Monday morning at 9 a.m., you must put 3 days in the system and not 2. user-guide-renters

Km/day allowance

Some private owners offer an unlimited number of Km/day. Others have decided to put an upper limit. Eg. 200km/day. The km/day package is indicated on each listing.

Each additional km will be charged on a flat-rate basis of 0.40 CHF/add. km (this amount may change, please refer to our general conditions on the site). On the vehicle inspection form, you will write down, with the owner, the number of existing km when the vehicle is picked up and the new number when you return it, so that you avoid any misunderstanding. And if the package is exceeded, you will be charged on your credit card upon return of the vehicle.

Professional hirers can decide on the amount of the additional km, between 0.1 and 1CHF per additional km.

In all cases, the price of the additional km will be indicated in the details of each listing, in the section rental conditions, as well as in the details of the reservation, at the time of the booking.

Yet, and regardless of the number of km/day offered by the owner, it would be advisable for you to mention to the owner, at the time of booking, if you plan to travel a lot of kilometers with his vehicle. Indeed, there is a big difference if you go for 500 km or 5,000 km ride out! And it seems fair to mention it whilst making the request. user-guide-renters

Gear/equipment

As mentioned in our terms & conditions, it is the renter who is responsible for showing up with the regulatory equipment. In Switzerland this is the approved helmet. But other neighboring countries have other legal requirements. In addition, we recommend that you be properly equipped with an anti-abrasive jacket and pants and gloves.

However, owners can optionally make this equipment available, for free or for an extra charge set by them. They can also rent out comfort equipment such as GPS, side cases, etc.

However, the owners can optionally make this equipment available. If this is the case, it will be clearly mentioned in the vehicle description. user-guide-renters

CO2 compensation

Since 2022, you have the possibility of offsetting your CO2 emissions linked to your reservation. You must select the option when making the reservation request. How does it work in practice? We’ll explain everything here

Vehicle inspection

When handing over the keys, we recommend that you take an inspection tour of the vehicle, using the form provided by Cruizador, in order to document all damage(s) prior to rental. This document, dated and signed by both parties, will serve as the basis in the event of a claim. You can also document (pre)existing damage(s) with pictures. user-guide-renters

Rating of the hirers

The dynamic of our community is based on peer reviews, both from renters and owners. How good was the experience with this owner?  Why don’t you reward him with a good review?

Your review may also help other potential renters (general condition of the motorcycle, communication with the owner, etc.). How to proceed?

  1. Log in
  2. Click on the booking (tab my bookings)
  3. Click on the pen (✏️)
  4. Leave a review
  5. Save

It’s done!

Acceptance rate

In order to bring more transparency and trust in our ecosystem, we have added an indication that should help renters. From now on, for each owner, you will see in the profile section, the acceptance rate, i.e. the frequency/propensity of an owner/hirer to validate a booking request. So in addition to the ratings left by previous renters, this information will provide information about the type of owner.

user-guide-renters

user guide renters Minimal duration

The minimum rental period is 24 hours. We do not want to make hourly rentals, which would be too restrictive for users. Indeed, do you want to fill out the contracts, inspect the condition of the vehicle, etc. for  a 2h rental? user-guide-renters

Cancellation policy

Please bear in mind that a cancellation represents an inconvenience for the owners. However, we understand that unexpected event can occur and that the Swiss climate is sometime capricious.

Also, we have implemented a differentiated cancellation policy. The choice of policy is left to the goodwill of each owner. And the applicable policy will be indicated on each listing.

  • Flexible policy: free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure
  • Moderate policy: first day charged in case of cancellation
  • Strict policy: 100% of the reservation charged in case of cancellation

user guide renters How to cancel? Log into your account and cancel directly in your profile (my bookings tab). Detailed infos about cancellation policy here

Payment

You are only charged at the end of the reservation. However, we only capture your credit card information in our system to guarantee the seriousness of the rental request.

At the latest 24 hours before picking up the vehicle, we will block the deposit. Make sure you have a sufficient limit on your credit card (min 1’000CHF). When returning the vehicle, you inspect the vehicle (no damage), check the number of kilometers traveled (if applicable), that there is no overcharge (late return e.g.) and that everything is in order. Once we have received this information, we will charge your credit card for the corresponding amount.

Like any other vehicle rental services, the amount indicated by the system during the reservation request is therefore only indicative/temporary. These are the indications on the rental contract (start/end date) and the inspection form which will be used for the final invoicing.

And remember to consult our “help for renters” sections (here) and our FAQs. We discuss other relevant topics related to rental. user-guide-renters

Hey, I'm the founder and Chief Biker Officer of Cruizador. I've been a motorcyclist and travel enthusiast for a long time, and it was in 2018 that I decided to launch this new service, hoping that it would speak to as many bikers as possible who share the same philosophy and the same thirst for the great outdoors. I'd be delighted to take note of your comments, ideas for improvement, etc. Ride on!
